Enjoying Baby Ground Squirrels

I was out photographing a budding fir tree
noticed this little fir ball on my lawn
basically the size of a mouse

where is mom?
i was snapping it's portrait
and the click click click of my camera
must of sounded like the high pitch sound it's mom makes

because it trotted and tumbled through the grass and cuddled up next to my shoe!

I stopped taking photos
wanted the little critter to find mom
as it was evening the time they go underground

next day
i learned that this mom has 5 babies to keep track of
teach and cuddle with

across the road i noticed more babies
another family
as i approached they all ran underground
seeing some flowers
i began to photograph them
one of the babies appeared from underground
so interesting to see how they respond to the sound of my camera

look at those cute furry ears

~
on another note
Lucy and i have enjoyed foraging morel mushrooms

yea!

  5. Oh sweet Tammie, this post speaks to my soul! How wonderful to have found the way to attract those furbabies to come right up to you, I can just imagine what you felt when it cuddled up to your foot, so amazing!
Great find, just like this treasure of mushrooms in your buckets, I can picture a lovely risotto or other mushroom feast that you enjoyed, a gift from nature!
    You and Lucy look gorgeous!

  6. What adorable shots of that baby ground squirrel! Maybe the clicking noise of your camera sounds like something the mother squirrel may make to keep her babies close?
My, you gathered so many mushrooms! Well done! So lovely to see you too!

  8. Absolutely love foraged food, that smile says it all! Maybe you could have the odd nature photographing workshop, just think of the dozens of ground squirrels that would suddenly appear with all those snapping noises.
So lovely to be enjoying Spring with you.

  9. There's not much cuter than that! They have their place in the big puzzle of Nature, and I wish them all well. I think my resident squirrel is starting a family although I haven't seen the results yet. I envy your morels! Perhaps I can find some this week too.

  18. I’ve never seen ground squirrels in person. The babies are so adorable, their mother as well. Your photos made me feel I could almost reach out and touch the fur. When you have time, come to see fawns on my blog. Nice to see such a lovely photo of you and Lucy. Have happy days ahead.

  21. They really are beautiful. And the squirrels in my realm tend to leave my gardens alone. The chipmunks, on the other hand...

And I LoVeLoVeLoVe see you, and Lucy, in your element!
