Tiny House

Who lives down this tiny hole?
See the ice crystals?
They are a sign of breath, something warmer than the air.
Tiny little tracks from the critter coming and going also there.
~

when the snow begins to melt, a stepping stone path is darker than the grass in between, so it melts first:

a bit like a ginger bread house
with icing sliding off:

I love it when the snow crashes off the roof
always wishing there were children there to hoot in glee with me

There are so many enchanting wonders in winter.

  3. Oh how beautiful is this! One photo and story more enchanting than the other!
I keep learning things from you, never would've imagined about the crystals above that hole meaning that a critter is breathing underneath!
Nor about the stepping stones melting earlier.
And, how lovely to enjoy the moment the snow slides off your roof, I wish I were there to see it with you.
Tammie, you always leave me mesmerised!! ♥♥♥

    1. Thank you for such a lovely message Marta. It is fun to share the things i find and learn.
I never saw those stepping stones do that before. A fun surprise.
It would be fun to have you here when the snow slides off. It has even woken me up before with a kabam that shakes the cabin. The layer next to the roof turns to ice because of the warmth inside, so when that cracks and lets loose it can be quite a sound!

  9. The stepping stone walkway looks so beautiful in the snow! So does your cabin. We have snow falling off our roof too but it scares me because it gets going so fast on the metal roof.

Yes, roof snow can be dangerous.

  12. It was so fun to be a kid and feel that snow fall off! It's beautiful in your world. I wonder who lives down there -- a wee chipmunk, maybe? I hope he doesn't get snowed in!

    1. Hi Jeanie,
Chipmunks are hibernating at this time of year. We will not see then until spring. I am guessing it is the home to vole, mouse or lemming. They seem to have many entrances and live under the snow this time of year. Fun that you remember the snow falling off the roof too.

  13. I enjoyed seeing that little thing happening in the quiet snow world. I always admire your careful observation.
The tiny hole immediately reminded me of snow holes called Kamakura in Japanese. In some parts of northern Japan, people build snow holes for kids to enjoy.
You live in such a charming house! Our autumn is gradually deepening into winter. Leaves are changing to yellow and red!
    Have a good day,Tammie.

    1. Tomoko, It is interesting to hear of the Kamakura that people build for children, sounds like so much fun.
So you are still thick in autumn. Ours seems to have passed a bit soon to me. Thank you for enjoying.

  16. Dear Tammy - The tiny hole made me imagine who’d be the residents and like Tomoko reminded me of “kamakura”, a little snow hut where children play house. “Ginger bread house with icing off”, that’s really well put. You live in a fairyland immersed in the natural wonders.
