Mountain Lions

I stepped outside
to have a mountain lion cub
(large)
run in front of me

did I really see that?

as the cub moved into the forest

I heard it calling
and
another responding

two siblings wanting to be near one another

this is the sibling
making its way to the other

notice that its spots are near invisible
that might make it 6 months of age

here is a short video I captured:

that was the first time I have ever seen a mountain lion
in the wild

I have to say it was quite wonder-full!

  2. A mountain lion, oh my. My mother-in-law has seen a few in her time living in the mountains as well. That must have been a surprise for you....a pleasant surprise.

I hope the new year is being good to you, Tammie Lee.

  11. What beauties! I wonder if, at six months, they're weaned from their mother and on their own, or if momma was off on a hunt.

    1. I am told they are weaned around 3 months.
I also read that they stay with their mom for 1.5-2 years of age.

    2. The sad thing is that maybe their mother got killed by some whack job hunter.

    1. Thank you KB. I was hoping that you would see this post. I have enjoyed all your lion (and other) videos.
      I feel lucky too.

  28. Oh Tammie, how amazing!!! How lucky you are to have seen these kittens so close by (did you ever worry that the mom was close by?). I have never seen a cougar in the wilderness even though we have quite some here. They have seen me I'm sure, but not the other way around. Wonderful photos and short video - thank you!

    1. I was completely aware of the possibility of a mama.
This is my first sighting. It was quite enlivening.
I have heard that is true about lions seeing us, but not us seeing them. With bears too.

      Thank you for enjoying.

  29. Oh my, Tammy... This is such a fabulous encounter, I can easily imagine how excited you were!
A very iconic animal to me, all my life I dreamt of them and the wolves.
    Lucky you :))))
Many thanks for your sweet words on my posts, and for appreciating that magnificent sentence about the soul being a crystal.
"Still my heart"... these words appear in at least 2 different songs but the one I listen too most often it that of Vangelis in "Loosing Sleep":

I am flying off to Kenya next wednesday for a month, so I won't be blogging but I am pre-programming a few posts.
Warm hugs and take care :)
