Spring, An Avatar

Winters dream becomes Spring
warmer days arrive
Spring, an avatar
calls my name
in the song of birds
on the current of a warm breeze
as the muskrat swims
across the pond, freshly risen from its den
an avatar of new life
calls my spirit to rise from hibernation
weans me away from winter
stretch and yawn
a languid stroll
earth soft under my feet
breathe
awaken
let my spirit enliven
your spirit
with light and shadows
warmth and color
slowly we will prepare
the feast of summer

  6. That muskrat looks like a giant rat. Yuk! I don't like rats. In fact my phobia started when I was a young kid, and itt flood every year. The rats and mice would be sitting in rows in my mum's veg garden. I linked the plague with rats. 40 years on, I still am scared of them

  13. Spring does prod us to get moving, doesn't it? Sometimes I'm more amenable to that prod, and sometimes I feel like resisting it. Glad you were moving around that day you found the muskrat, though -- great catch! Likewise the warming rocks with the receding snow. Wonderful pictures!

  43. The muskrat is an amazing animal. It lives comfortably on the edges of two worlds - water and land - finding sustenance and shelter in each, as situations require. It would be a wonderful totem, with strong medicine.
