I saw the SKY!

This is my fourth winter. You read that right, the kind of winter with weather, snow, lots of gray days, ice and ice crystals, barely feeling the warmth of the sun for up to five months. Before these four years my life was in Southern California. Don't get me wrong, winter exists there, well all the folks with obvious seasons chuckle over that, I know. The seasons down south are more SUBTLE. Anyway, it has been gray for gosh... ten days at LEAST. I have not been my normal cheery self for about two months, for a number of reasons. I am guessing the lack of sun had it's effect in my more fragile state of being. With the encouragement of a friend I drove up to our ski mountain to get above the clouds. Now that was a brilliant suggestion! My spirit lifted immediately. The light went right in my eyes and touched my heart and my spirit was light and cheerful. Twas amazing to witness and feel this! Here is an image from up there:

Then I drove back down into the Flathead Valley, back into the clouds.....
Not much light, but I found beauty:

I went into a store, came out to find the sun and blue skies!!!
Here are sunset images:

  1. Those are really beautiful shots. Stunning contrast in color in the first one. I'm glad you got a little bit of sunshine. I guess it does make all the difference in how you feel especially if you haven't seen it for a while. Here in Norcal we see lots of sunshine, but today it actually rained a little. Happy Friday.

  2. That tree with the long white tresses is amazing, refreshing just to look at it.

  3. You made it on your outing! Bernie said you might head up into the mountains. I'm glad you got to experience those vivid blue skies, and that tree set against it is amazing. I hope it helped with your mood a bit. It is amazing how that lack of sun can get to us some times. And then you brought the blue down the mountain with you!

  8. Perhaps when your spirit was revitalized, you found pure beauty once again, and brought it down into the heavier valleys below with you. You then saw the beauty in the denser surroundings which melted the blanket that blocked the sun. ? It's a fun story.

  9. Yes Bernie, that is a fun story. I enjoy your perceptions. I sense I was not the only one celebrating with blue skies and sunshine!

  12. I get blue sometimes during a long winter and it is usually cabin fever. I try to get out and take the dog for walks out in the bush...but you always seem to find beauty in the least likely places

  21. Beautiful images, you've really captured the magical beauty of a snow-covered tree.

I'm glad you found your light, I too am very susceptible to emotional darkness during the gray days. It's incredible how something as simple as sunlight can make such a difference.

  30. Your photos are magical! It must have been quite an adjustment to move from Southern CA to where you are now. I moved from Southern CA to Florida & that adjustment took me 5 years! I don't think I could survive without the sunshine but it looks to me that you create your own with the beauty of your photography:)

  31. You certainly found beauty and to spare! Those first two shots are just pure heaven! The other two are lovely too in their own ways.

  32. I'm glad you were encouraged to get above the clouds...it can make a huge difference, and when the valley gets into an aversion like it has been, going for a hike up above the fog and clouds you can feel as if you are swimming in the sky...a very cool feeling to be sure!

I grew up here (in the Flathead) and just recently returned after having lived in Seattle for 16 years...so for me I feel that winter here is full of sun! lol I guess it all depends on your perspective!

It was a pleasure finding you during One World One Heart, and even more fun to know that we are in fact Neighbors in life!

Keep reaching for the blue sky!
