For Me, Trees are Majesty

walking amongst the winter trees

where snow does land upon their limbs

and fog drifts amongst them

at times
the sun comes out to shine

winter's breath is then alive

dancing of the trees
whispers of the wind
telling who are kin

The Voices of the Day

the voices of the day
call to me
call to me
first the rivers song
rolling over rocks
whispers to my ear

the more i listen
the more i hear

the swell of the breeze
mingling with the trees

and their dry leaves
music in the air

autumn grass quite dry

bending in the breeze
crisp sounds they do make

the more i listen 

the more i hear

I went camping up the North Fork, Polebridge area last week

Autumn is entirely beautiful this year...

 

This Morning ~

last night

rain fell, on and on

our dusty roads no longer dusty

today's air

crisp clean invigorating

I am reminded of the first time I visited Montana

it was this time of year

I fell in love 

we woke to our first snow of the season

mountains cloaked in white

Italian Mountains

sharing some high mountain beauty with you

I wish i knew the name of these Italian mountains

we were in the north, not far from Switzerland

Many Glacier, Montana

it was a windy day

swept all the dust away

air and light

vibrant

shooting into the sun is not favorable

still i thought to share this wild beauty with you:

this land begs to be walked into

like a beautiful invitation

Mountain Lion and Elk

headed into the forest and through the meadow on skis
day a blend of subtle grays greens and white
following the tracks of a lone coyote

a song of twitter tweet 

tiny birds

then a splash of movement and rich browns

a tribe of elk
they looked at me

I at them

they turned and trotted through the trees

continuing on
a fresh trail of a lone mountain lion 

I could not help but follow

a month or so ago
  I found a lion had walked in my tracks

now I follow the lion

somehow I feel an affinity to these quiet winter woods

Grave Creek House

once upon a time

this wee house was built

looking into these walls

I wonder why it tilts

the stories it holds

may never be told

but we can dream and wonder

~

the sun came out 

and it seems Autumn is still amongst us

I love this vital time when two seasons dance

snow one day

hinting of winter

sun the next reclaiming autumn

reminding me that nature has it's own way

and we must learn to dance with what is

while wandering yesterday

we came across one of the more humorous 'No Trespassing' signs I have seen:

Snowy Autumn Land

fell asleep to a warm night sky
cloaked in clouds at 28F
woke to four fresh inches of autumn snow
two snow falls to date
how many will it take
before golden grasses lie down
announcing winter is here

in the meantime
grasses appear to be rising through
a sand land along an ocean shore
i can almost smell the salty air
when a breeze of pine
awakens me to our snowy autumn land

Blush of Autumn

autumns blush goes on and on

delighting our eyes

filling the air

tis the time of year

when the sun shines on us it penetrates our bones

yet if a single cloud wanders by and cloaks the sun

we feel autumn's chill

and so it goes

warm and cold

light and shadows

as the sun rides closer to earths horizon

autumns blush goes on and on

clouds were passing through today
from west to east
through hills and valley
meadow and high mountain


cloaked within their misty forms
traveled celestial ancients


their sole purpose
to sprinkle blessings on the land
and all that lived beneath


and so they did
and so it goes
blessings from above

tis Halloween

and the sun descending towards the horizon drew me out of my wee cabin

to sunset bathe

and greet the Celtic New Year with my heart

whether you celebrate Halloween

Day of the Dead, honoring those who have passed to the beyond

or Samhain

I wish you a gracious time

Autumn's dance has just begun

days are warm

delicious

nights are crisp

clear

a wonderful time

to relax and mingle

with nature

and loved ones near

yesterday my dear friend Abigail had her birthday

we dined, roamed and enjoyed this lake,

her banks

and treasures galore that we found as we strolled along. 

a glorious way to celebrate life!
