The Birth of a Dragonfly

Placing the kayak in the pond, exploring all the snail eggs from the water (see previous post for them). I spied something unique and paddled on over. A dragonfly had recently emerged from it's previous body.

It was hanging as you see here in the first photo. Milky wings and a near transparent body. I stayed for an hour photographing, watching, breathing with the near invisible pulse of it's closed wings as they prepared to open.

Then I wandered off to other things. Returning a half hour later, it had opened it's wings and before night fall it had taken it's first flight.

Note how the color of it's wings and body change from the first photo to the last, all in less than two hours. I felt honored to witness it's birth.

Wishing you all a lovely day and beyond!
