Tangible Warning

they appeared
majestic in beauty and muscle
above our heads on summer cliffs
blue sky
green  flora
framed them superbly

their gaze landed on us with concern
in turn this should have concerned us
yet we watched with joy to see them

two elders came down the cliffs toward us
sent the younger ones far around

as they neared
a force quite tangible
beamed from their eyes and forehead
warning us to back off
we did
they held us off
until their tribe was far away
lowering their heads to eat
~

  1. oh my, that was clearly spoken! Amazing pictures, Tammie. I am worried, though: is that snow in that last picture? Say it's not so!

  2. yes dear Anno,
that is snow from last winter. we were high up in the mountains; Logan Pass in Glacier National Park. The north facing slopes still have snow. But know we had short sleeves on that hot summers day.

  14. The sheep at Grand Canyon are very tolerant. Good to be paying attention to their message.

  15. As wild sheep, there is only one's nature to attend to, beyond that which flocks out of fear. There is then no staff to rule one's next moment.

  19. Wow, I could really see the power in the gaze of the one who looked straight at you. I love these photos. What a treat!

My only "tangible warning" has been from a bear. It wasn't such a quiet stare because the mother bear was sprinting around and whacking the ground with her paw while staring at me...
