Busy Busy little Squirrels

Squirrels are very busy

climbing high into the trees
tossing tiny pine cones to the earth
then scurrying to stack them in every little hole they find

a funny thing:
they bring the cones from the trees to the earth
and things they find on earth they take up into the trees

such as this mushroom

finding wild apples on the ground,
see the bit it 'hid' under the rock
pieces as big as it's head

hiding apples up up in the trees

a mushroom hidden under this tree

it was gone the next day

even filling the tunnels of ground squirrels!
this squirrel is not a ground squirrel
it is a tree squirrel

The ground squirrels have gone underground already for the year

they are also very busy eating!
wonderful entertainment!

  1. Very nice, as ever. Enough said.

  2. they're something, aren't they? maybe ants are more industrious than squirrels, but it can't be by much...

i'm smiling seeing all of the squirrel moments you've captured, tammie... : )

  5. Oh, Tammie, this is reminding me that we must be thinking of winter coming too. Great photos! You really have a story in your images. Funny about them putting earthly food in the trees and visa versa. A fun post! ;>)

  6. Love it! They ought to be mirrors to us: living in the right moment, anticipating on what has to be done for winter :)
    Thank you, Tammie.

  11. Wonderful entertainment indeed to see those busy little squirrels at work. I loved reading about all their storing tricks and all the wonderful photography on these nimble and photogenic little characters!

  12. Beautifully captured Tammie, I 'specially like the first one.

  13. Busy, busy! A mushroom nearly drooped on my head when I was walking in the woods - the squirrel started scolding me loudly as if it was my fault! Great critter shots, Tammie.

  14. Despite the physical distance between us, we share what I call "the season of urgency" that arrives with the waning of summer and the entrance of autumn. I see the signs, too, in the behaviors of the squirrels and the bees and the birds and in my own harvesting and preserving.

    Wonderful photographs ~ as always!

  15. oh, what a delight this post was. your pictures are great. i imagine you have as much fun watching your squirrels as i have watching the two that live across from our house. aren't they adorable creatures? have a great day~

  21. I do love your cute squirrel,I would have one here !

  22. Lovely squirrel photos. How sweet that they bring what they find in the trees down, and take what they find on the earth up!

We have red squirrels on the Isle of Wight. Previously all the UK squirrels were red, but the American grey squirrel arrived and carries a virus which wipes out the red ones, sadly. The fact of being an island protects our red squirrels, and they are much loved and highly protected.

Warm greetings to you~

Thank you for visiting and also for sharing your thoughts and feelings. Seeing anew through your eyes and heart mean so much to me!
