Owl Visit

The sound of squirrels warning the forest of danger.

I looked up to see a Great Gray Owl glide over the pond to land on a stump.

Sitting, looking around then hopped to the ground.

Ripples danced through the ponds surface as the owl took a morning bath in shallow water.

Then hopped back up on the stump, shaking this way and that.

Lifting into the air, silently landing on a limb.

Watch the video as it shakes and dries from it's bath. Then breaks a branch that is in it's way. In the smoky morning air (see golden smoky light on it's back).

I got to sit and watch for 45 min. As this owl was in no rush to leave.

it knew I was there

did not seem to care

It is super smoky these days
so many wildfires
the owl was a wonderful experience
among our hard to breath days

  1. Wow...what great photos of that owl! I love it! That's awful about the forest fires. We don't really get that here in the Laurentians and I'm thankful!

Yes, sad about the fires. So many of them and yes, the fire in the park has gotten quite large.

  10. Tammie Lee, the Owl is such an unusual looking bird, and grand. So glad you got to experience this Owl sighting. That's scary about the fires lately. Another one of my blog friend's is experiencing all the smoke as well, as she lives in the mountains. I hope you get rain to wash it out. Be safe and take care.

    1. Thank you Sheri for your well wishes. It has been smoky for near 2 weeks. Longer for lots of other areas in Montana. Such a bad bad fire season.
The owl experience was a bright light among the smoke.

  11. Dear Tammie – I’m back to blogging. The wise and lovely owl is nicely camouflaged in nature. I felt like that he came to talk to you through telepathy. Many wildlife would feel alarmed by the wildfire. I wonder how the sun looks like in the smoky sky. Wish enough rain to extinguish the fire as soon as possible. Be safe and healthy.

  12. Very Few people will ever get to see such a beautiful site as a bathing owl, let alone a sitting owl. The fires...we've had our share here in Tennessee, so I understand the anxiety of it.

  13. Dear Tammie
Sorry to hear about the fire.Abnormal weather is happening in many places on our planet.I hope the fire will be controlled and enough rain fall in the mountains.
Even smoky days your landscape is beautiful and I love the stillness.
When I just opened your post I remembered that owl is a Guardian God in the Greek Mythology. Your owl is beautifully novel and looks protect your forest! I am back logging from my summer break. I am glad to able to visit you again.
