Snow snow snow

snow falling
little chickadee
all fluffed up

 snow falling
forest cloaked in white
in the tip top of a tree a hawk sits
viewing the world from high

(a Rough legged hawk)

(chickadee was at home, hawk down the road, so little bird is safe)

it has been a snowy week
which often happens this time of year
but more snow than usual

I plowed for the first time this season
that seems early

it is so pretty

Any thoughts on how this circle
on my frozen pond came to be?
I have never seen that happen before.
Maybe wind swirling around the tiny island?

  1. So the snow has come to you already. The countryside looks so gorgeous and I love that little (safe) chickadee shot all puffed up against the cold!
Let's say that the circle of snow on your pond is magical! Doesn't that sound like a lovely idea - maybe the Snow Queen swirled past on her sleigh!

    1. Hi Sandra,

I do like your idea of ‘magical’ and the ’snow queen’. It is a new phenomenon to me, being here 12 years, well that is fun to see.

  2. The fairies did it! They played ring around the rink while skating.

Still shorts and sandals here. Pomegranates bursting, bees hovering and collecting pollen--hovering over the flowers among the grass. Figs still green and slowly ripening.

We have to get our cold weather via the Internet. :) Thank you for the delicious photographs.

  3. What beautiful pictures, as always Tammie Lee. We haven't had snow in this part of Scotland for the last three winters. It makes life a little easier, but I really love walking in the snow!

    1. Yes, no snow is less winter work.
Seems there is other work during the rest of the year that does not need attention during snow time, forced rest.
The sun is out today and I took a walk, so lovely.

  5. Gorgeous!

We've seen the odd stray flake here, and the nights are below the freezing mark now consistently.

  6. Oh snowy beauty! I think the forest gnomes made the circle so you would wonder about it. We need a big snow storm, but there are only patches of white on the ground right now. I love the hawk photo!

  7. Your chickadee is so sweet and, I'm glad, safe. It's a fairyland you live in when it snows. But no, I have no idea about your snow island. It's pretty though!

    Gros bisous 🌸

  10. It seems early snow is all over in the north already. I hope it's not shaping up to be a winter like last year.

    1. It seemed early to me too Mary. But I looked back at photos of that time for years, it is normal. But I think we have twice as much and so far it is staying. That is different.
In a couple of days it will be around 40F, that might melt some of the snow away.

  12. This is as always my favourite part with this grand beauty you share! Ah the first snow, that is what I call magic for sure! How I love your cabin in the snow and think of you a lot. It has such a peaceful feel and that white world of first snow and ice is a marvel!
We saw the first snow on the hills just yesterday and the temperatures round here have dropped too. I embrace the cold! So good after months of warmth!
Best wishes dear friend, enjoy the beginnings of Winter! xx

  13. We are having snow too. It always seems early :) I love your little chickadee, and I'm glad he's okay. I don't know how the ice formed that circle... a mystery.

  21. Isn't the hawk a GRAND bird always sitting up on the highest tree limb gazing with caution? That little chickadee is so cute. Your house and area look like a winter wonderland. I'm in awe.
