perched
upon a small limb
a nest made of lichen and gossamer spider webs
a tiny humming bird
lays two eggs
they are sat upon with care
day after day
tiny beaks
peck and peck
two babies are born
the nest is made of gossamer spider webs
so that it can stretch as the babies grow
ingenious!

ReplyDeleteDear Tammie, How lucky to have a precious Hummingbird nest so close to your home or some building. Wonderful captures of these treasures of our gardens. You seem to be at eye level with the nest . . . is it low or are you on a ladder? Is this a Ruby-throated Hummingbird? I look forward to seeing them grow through your lens. Hugs from the northeast.
ReplyDeletehi Carol,
ReplyDeleteit has been a joy to watch these little beings be born and grow up, they are still in the nest. The mama built the nest below eye level! on a branch that does indeed sway in the wind. One of the babies appears to be 1/3rd larger than the other, it must be more aggressive when fed and most certainly at this point can reach up for the food easier than the other. amazing to see. thank you for asking.
Oh you have such stunning images of the hummers. Just beautifully photographed, TL!
ReplyDeleteThis post would make a sweet children's book! Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeletelots of comments here
ReplyDeletethat humming bird is so so clever, an expanding nest is something I have never seen before.

Preciosas capturas, hermosa entrada, unas imágenes muy dulces!
ReplyDeleteAbrazos desde Argentina.
That M0ther Nature is brilliant, g0ssamer spider webs t0 stretch as the babies gr0w?!!.. I am amazed that y0u can get such ph0t0s!
ReplyDeleteOh, Tammie--what an incredible set of photos. I just love them. I am sure faeries must be lingering near.
ReplyDeleteThese fill my eyes to the very brim.
How fun to see the hummingbirds grow. I wonder if the hummingbird lays the eggs on different days, which may also explain the size difference. I know that an owl's eggs also hatch at different times, contributing to different sized owlets.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a seriously cozy nest!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
