these colors!
striking designs
and colors
like an island
of wonder
many kinds
look like
living art
I still have a foot of snow at my place
yet daily the rings of earth around trees grow larger
winter is thawing into spring
the creek sings
day and night
wandering around boulders
a delightful miniature world
of lichen thriving
macro lens and the details spring to sight
lichen will hold me over until the world turns green
and
mushrooms and flowers abound

Lichens are indeed amazing. If I am not mistaken they are the first organisms to invade lava beds after a volcanic eruption and aid in fixing nitrogen, which sets off the whole sequence of other growth.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe it is something like that. Maybe algae comes first and lichen is a mix of algae and fungi. It is all so amazing. Thank goodness for these critters.
DeleteNature gives us things that are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHave a good one, Tammie !.
Tomás.
I completely agree with you.
DeleteThey feel quite otherworldly.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do. a bit like tidal pool critters.

DeleteThese are great photos! I love lichens and they are doing well right now.
ReplyDeleteThank you Terry. They are doing well. Each year I learn a bit more about them and it is fun to notice the growing bits on them this time of year.
DeleteThese look like gorgeous abstract paintings. I could see one or all of them enlarged -- I mean REALLY enlarged -- and on the wall of a building.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie, I agree with you. I would love looking at them on a wall.
DeleteThose are really beautiful, you've capture the beauty so well. I have never seen such things in Nature...maybe because I haven't really looked? :)
ReplyDeleteYour lichen photos are so awesome, Tammie. Worlds within worlds without end... We're having a blizzard just now in Breck. I'm sitting by the fire and dreaming of sandy beaches.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I do love lichens. We are blessed with a lot of different species at our new property. I suspect it may be something to do with the damper conditions there!!
ReplyDeleteWow - such minute beauty!
ReplyDeleteLichens are indeed like living art. I love their colors and crazy textures!
