I donned xc skis
and headed through the woods, meadows and hills
the wilds around home
after an hour I arrived at a tangled forest along a creek
you know the kind of woods that you have to bend and twist to get through
the limbs of trees and bushes
grab your hat and cloak each step of the way
along the waters edge
snow turned into geometry crystals
sacred geometry
it was layers and layers deep, perhaps a dozen layers
of delicate yet strong sheets of these icy layers
a pile of flicker (woodpecker group) feathers were scattered on a log and snow
someone dinned in these shadowy woods
a lone wolf had passed the same path that morning
ice formations showed the beauty of branches in a unique way
upon return
I had the honor of holding a little junco until it felt well enough to fly away
after colliding with a window
~
it truly felt like a fairy-tale day

Everything is so beautiful and those ice crystals are amazing! Such a sweet little junco which was able to revive itself after a collision. It must have been a wonderful moment to feel it there in your hand! Such beautiful and colourful orange feathers!
ReplyDeleteI was happy the junco was ok too, took about ten minutes.
DeleteIt really looks like you've been in a fairy-tale, Tammie! Your post is like a letter from another world. I feel it also like a gift from nature, while staying at home in these tough times... I'm most impressed by the geometry ice crystals and the bright orange feathers. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteP.P. I posted in my blog after a long, long pause.
I felt like I was in a fairy tale and enjoyed every minute. So lovely to have you stop by.
DeleteWhat a magical day!! Those geometrical shapes in the ice are fantastic! Beautiful photos and bless you for helping out the junko! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a magical day. So glad I did that. We are back to deep cold and snow now.
DeleteDear Tammie - Thank you for taking us into the world of fairy tale. You are surely a part of it, wandering around the woods with cross-country skis. The layers of geometry crystals and iced branches took my breath away. Junco is first for me to see. It has lovely feather colors and looks comfortable on the similar colored knit cap or shawl of yours.
ReplyDeleteYoko
That is my shawl. I held it for a while and when it started moving I opened my hand and it sat there for a while.
DeleteThank you for enjoying my fairy tale.
Now, that was a perfect almost spring day! I loved every bit of it, especially the branches dipped in the brook.
ReplyDeleteIt was a perfect day. Now we are back to snow and deep cold!
DeleteI have never seen orange woodpecker feathers. They are stunning. And the junco and crystals. Indeed, it WAS a fairy tale day.
ReplyDeleteThe Flicker has orange feathers and also black and white polka dotted feathers, so beautiful. They are fairly large.
