yesterday
a bear, grizzly bear walked through....
I was fairly far from it
it stood up to have a good look at me
or smell of me?
the bear was hunting a ground squirrel
it circled this leaning tree
dug at the earth
stood up and pounced:
it caught the ground squirrel (gopher)
and
sauntered off into the woods to eat in private
~
one never knows what one will see in the woods

What an astonishing experience, Tammie! I'm glad you had the presence of mind (and a handy camera) to capture this encounter. Myself, I suspect I would have tried to run for the nearest tree...
ReplyDeleteHi Anno,
DeleteI bet this youngster could climb a tree, but maybe not. Black bears scurry right up these trees, no problem. Not as easy for a grizz. I was standing next to my car. Photos are seriously cropped for your viewing pleasure.
Fabulous. She’s simply wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering how to tell if it is a he or she.
DeleteAmazing pictures of this grizzly bear who looks so close to you. Do you know what to do in case of a close encounter? I guess you do! I was glad to read above that you were close to your car!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra,
DeleteYes, I was going to my car when I saw it. It was fun to watch. The photos are cropped for better viewing.
I did not have bear spray, so I opened my car door in case the bear ran at me. It was far, but they are fast. Also it was quite focused on hunting. Quite exciting to witness.
Thank you for your message.
Lovely day to you!
So aweet!I feel like I am watching your picture book.
ReplyDeleteAh, that is fun. I did put them in order for that. Otherwise I would have led with the last photo as it is my favorite: bear in action.
DeleteGreat shots. I have been this close to bear as well. N.Idaho and all over MT. Still have family in MT. I can't tell you how much I miss the woods. I spent 3 years completely remote, it took me a very long time to live in a house again. LOL
ReplyDeleteI bet you do miss the woods. What park of Montana Or maybe Idaho were you completely remote? Sounds like a wonderful experience that has been meaningful.
DeleteTammie, I saw the title of your post and I had to pull away from my packing and leave a comment. What an AWESOME sighting. Those are some amazing photos, lucky you!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to have you drop by and while you are so busy too. I hope your move is going well. I am sorry you have these challenges as part of your move (virus rule challenges)
DeleteAs if I was in a film!:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking it to heart!
DeleteFantastic - Great Shots For Sure - Enjoy The Weekend
ReplyDeleteCheers
Thank you so much.
DeleteWow! Amazing. We moved to our new house in the Scottish Borders last month, after four years of waiting. Well worth it so far, with plenty of wildlife so far. Otters, Badgers, Stoat, Roe Deer and this evening a Fox. Not so sure we are keen on him, as we also have chickens!
ReplyDeleteHow great that you watched the grizzly hunting. (And great that it wasn't you that it was hunting!) We only have Black Bear in CO - I've had too close encounters a few times, but the bears decided they didn't need to teach me a lesson. Thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a sight! Be careful out in the woods, my friend. : )
