The Rookery

hot summer day beckoned
i headed to the forest in search of a rookery a friend told me about

from the tree tops
wonderful strange sounds filled the air
the calls of Sand Hill Cranes

*Later: not Sand Hill Cranes, they are Blue Herons*

do you see the chicks head (high center)
i know it is hard to see:

at the base of three different trees i found eggs from the chicks in shades of light blue

the warm day inspired a sweet heavy scent of flowers

 inside these little bells
was quite a surprise:

and fruit to fill the air

I wandered on

Good Creek:

 old homesteads:

at the above spot....
a large crashing sound of a spooked animal filled the air
i think we scared one another
most likely moose or bear

and beautifully colored mushrooms

I hope you enjoyed your wander with me.
I sure did.

thank you Elaine

  2. You got some great shots there Tammie.
I wish we had some of your blue skies, I hear it's dry in Oklahoma this summer. They can have some of our rain.

  3. I so enjoyed your wandering about. All the pics brought me there, and what a wonderful place to be. That berry photo got me the most. LUscious.

Loved it! Nothing like a wander through northwest Montana! Haven't seen any ripe huckleberries around here yet, but the serviceberries are magnificent this year.

  8. What a delightful place to go for a wander. Thanks for taking us along.

  9. A gorgeous walk, than you for taking us with you.

  10. How could anyone not enjoy this walk? So what is the likelihood of encountering a mad bear?

  11. thank you all for your visits!

well, mama bears are with cubs this time of year... so we want to stay clear
    not good
a neighbor was horse riding around home the other day and came across a cub and then a mama and the bear chased them a bit
so i am not walking that way, but bears move around, so i could run across one, even in my yard!

  12. I love walking with you, Tammie - I could even imagine my adrenaline when the animal spooked! I love the way the light is shining on the broken shell. PS I have your rock card here on my kitchen counter - it always makes me smile.

  13. I very much enjoyed this walk, lots to see. I wonder what I'll see on my walk up Mount Herman this weekend?

  14. what a nice walk, your photographs are sweet views to a place I probably will never see in person but I am glad to see in pictures.

hope you have a great day.
