The Rookery

hot summer day beckoned
i headed to the forest in search of a rookery a friend told me about

from the tree tops
wonderful strange sounds filled the air
the calls of Sand Hill Cranes

*Later: not Sand Hill Cranes, they are Blue Herons*

do you see the chicks head (high center)
i know it is hard to see:

at the base of three different trees i found eggs from the chicks in shades of light blue

the warm day inspired a sweet heavy scent of flowers

 inside these little bells
was quite a surprise:

and fruit to fill the air

I wandered on

Good Creek:

 old homesteads:

at the above spot....
a large crashing sound of a spooked animal filled the air
i think we scared one another
most likely moose or bear

and beautifully colored mushrooms

I hope you enjoyed your wander with me.
I sure did.

thank you Elaine

They are lovely, well made and came in a beautiful handmade box!

Auction

I have just learned of an auction that is taking place
to help Terri Windling and her family in a time of need.

Terri has a wonderful blog called: The Drawing Board

If you would like to see the auction:

The list of things to bid on is wonderfully long and overflowing with awesome treasures....
perhaps you will find a gift for someone
and help a family in need at the same time.

these 3 images and 7 more will be included for the winner of my auction

Terri has inspired and helped so many, she deserves this support.

Conk Dripping

as a kiss of light
waking birds bugs and me
revealing glistening drops
hanging from a conk on a tree

Scutellinia scutellata

finding new
tiny fungi
forest treasures
to my eyes
these are trimmed with petite lashes
golden cups
for us to spy
~

last autumn I found tiny cups very similar and posted them

only those were red.....
research hints that they are: Scutellinia scutellata
aka: eyelash fungi

Sign of Spring

I wouldn't call you pretty
I'd call you pretty trippy
first fungi creature
in Spring woods

snow is melting slowly
barely earth showing
yet here you are growing
the wondrous
somewhat poisonous
false morel
~

this is my spring:

so
you can imagine my delight when I saw this mushroom growing!
Spring unfolds slowly in NW Montana

Do You Love Fungi?

this is one gorgeous fungi season
the enchanting creatures are popping up everywhere
my favorite time to visit
is in the morning light

I have never seen this second photo, the orange red one
it is quite tiny.
Be the first person to tell me what it is
in the comment section
and you can visit my webstore:

and choose 3 greeting cards, as a thank you from me!

I have been eating these wonderful little puff  balls, cooked,
they have a nutty flavor that I love.
But don't take my word on them being edible,
do your research! Get to know them, yum.
Or just enjoy there wonderful form for viewing.

here is another photo of the mushroom that I want to know the name of
this photo shows the size better
