Autumn Frost and Ice

the clouds have cleared
and under the watch of stars
and deeply cold temperatures
ice crystals are born

ephemeral beings
like wings of glass

ponds freeze over
exquisite expression for a brief time

bubbles held in ice
like a universe mirroring our sky

whose breath rises
from this wee cavern into the earth
they are tucked away for winter

  3. MAGICAL! You are a master at these kind of shots. I feel as if I'm in another world inhabited by ice-maidens and white horses that fly in the sky!
They are all incredible captures, but I have a soft spot for the very last one. Such a snug little place to curl up and sleep for the winter under a blanket of autumn leaves, gathered for the purpose!

  4. Your photos are magical.

I love discovering ice crystals like these, forming on wild stems. Not just yet, but soon . . .

I look for them each year.
    Thanks for sharing.

  7. Thank you Tammie. This is what I miss so much living in a climate where snow falls briefly once in 20 years, it is the glory of growing ice crystals and the wonder world of the snow queen of old Russian tales that my old Northern Hemisphere heart hankers after. I am so glad I found you in blogland. I can always rely on you bringing me the beauty as though you snapped it through my eyes.
