sweet little mountain chickadee

autumn raindrops

It has been a very cold autumn, more like winter cold.

snow a number of times

has come and gone

I love how the snow reveals who has walked by

in this case an elf....

(or possibly a skunk)

artful and beautiful

occasional snowflakes

 as well as

beautiful frost

Spring's Snow Stars

it was a snow star morning

as though fairies sprinkled them here and there

 

scattering magic throughout the land 

 

tiny snowflakes.... on spring's land

an ephemeral delight

graced with frosty edges

Spring Flowers, Montana Style

along the lake shore

kneeling

and 

what do I see

flowers!

(we are still under a foot or two of snow, 

so nothing is blooming yet)

under a layer of ice 

reflections of shadow and light

of snowflake like flowers

I was, still am thrilled by this sweet beauty

something I had never seen before

at home, while going through photos

I zoomed in to find small ice flowers on and in the 
surface layer of ice

they were too small or invisible for my eyes 

to see in person

these ice flowers are how the shadows came to be ...

maybe they are formed much like a snowflake?

have you ever seen this before?

seems like the art of fairy folk, to me.

Eartly Morning Forest Wander

before the sun revealed the blue of sky
in the early morning light 

 which barely kissed her world

she pulled on tall wool socks

bundled in cashmere, mittens and hat

wandered into the woods

frost transformed the trees

into nearly glowing beings

tracks revealed 
night time wanderers
in winter wonderland

winter has been mild in the NW corner of Montana

until last week 

when we woke to a foot of new snow

winter if feeling quite sincere now

Snowflakes and Winter Glimpses

 

this snowfall: slivers of crystals and star flakes

Until we look close, could we ever imagine the varied crystals of snow that grace our world?

winter woodlands

for two weeks

one Arctic Redpoll visited the feeder

makes me wonder how one bird

is here

they are usually a flock type of bird

Nearing Winter Solstice

as we near the Solstice

days have been mostly gray

yesterday

the sun came out

the mountains breath turned into clouds

 to set sight on these views was to change our 

breath and spirit

though the large views captured attention

I also noted that the snow had piled up

of entirely miniature

snowflakes

they barely stood out against the icy snow

another of winter's treasures

gently resting

snowflakes

 

emerging

from the underground

 

winter garland

for the

Queen of the Fairies

behold 

forest treasures

crystals

lichen

and 

winter blue light

it has been a super cold winter

i believe we have had 6 deep cold spells with nights 

in the minus 17F to -28F

(-27C to -34C)

makes for clear blue skied mornings

(at times)

that freeze ones checks in mere moments

 

I think of it as a sincere winter

Ice Crystal Morning

clouds parted during the night

stars shinned clear and bright

temperature dropped to -1F

and 

crystals grew

creating a magical winter wonderland to awaken to

the song 

of snow geese filled the world

as they flew overhead

the world appears enchanted

wings of crystalline ice

and 

wings in the sky
