Smitten with Mountain Ash

this week i planted my first biggish tree, nearly

three times the height of a shovel:

It is so beautiful!

Birds love their berries,

I sense it will bring joy 

to watch it grow over the years.

illuminating

the marvels of life

held within leaves

rising from the heart of a tree

yes, I am smitten

a forest of autumn leaves

as a colorful backdrop

pods burst

seeds take flight

holding life

within each fairy-like light

thrilled 

with the design

the dance

of each 

every plant

promises

of next springs new life

accented with the bone white of aspen trunks

and 

ankle high 

amber brush

 creek walking

offers a myriad of fallen leaves

shades of green 

to find delight in

a 

nest of puffballs

held in a green embrace

recently i left Montana for 9 days

it was summer

upon return 

i found our world cloaked in autumn

just like that

a new season

welcome

autumn colors

a new season 

to take to heart

roads beckoning

as they don new colors
