Solace with Trees

There is a greatness in the
stance of a tree.
The way it is rooted in the earth
it's branches, fingers
mingling with the sky.
The way it sways
with the wind.
A tree is home
shelter from the sun
rain and snow
for so many.

I find solace
in it's stance
for I am reminded
of a path
to find peace
grace
grounded strength
lightness
and life
within myself.

  1. Tammie Lee,
Trees have been and still are some of my favorite people.
I envy your access to that magnificent wilderness. My son visited Montana and recommended it to me with great acclaim. I've not been there yet but I will.
    Your poem is comforting.

    trees.... sigh
    they sigh
    we sigh
    they will still be sighing
    while we are dying!

  3. I suspect you are one of Tolkien's Elves: beautiful poem and the photograph is straight out of Lothlorien. Gorgeous.

  9. One of my friends is a redwood tree that lives outside my bedroom window, shining with sun-glint or wet with fog. You have expressed so well the comfort a tree can give. I enjoy both your poetry snd the lovely illustrations.

  10. How very true - I like the feeling of grounding in the words themselves. There is truth in a person needing to ground, and trees can help one do that. They've certainly been there for me. :)

  11. This is beautiful! I too feel a strong connection to trees. There is a huge tree which has been split (by age or a storm?) but I see a face in the tree. I see her as a wise grandmother tree, very beautiful. Charlie and I make sure to walk by and touch her everytime we enter and leave from our trail hike.

Those are my favorite lines from the poem, especially when you mentioned "fingers/mingling". Very personified.

Thank you so much for visiting on my Livejournal and for commenting on my poem about my "finding solace" piece.

Your lovely poem catches the essence of the solace we can gain from nature if we make time to "see". Thank you for posting your words and evocative photo -- and for creating such a beautiful site.

  15. I have just read through each of these comments and I smile deeply to feel how you are all touched by the presence of trees. Beings that hold a place for us to heal, nurture and be inspired.
Thank you all for your kind words!

  17. This photograph fills me with such serenity. It reminds me of the birch tree glade at our place on the upper peninsula of Michigan, my favorite refuge from the real world. The poem too helps me rekindle the peace that I find in the quiet of the woods and lake.

  18. Apropos of the latest SS prompt, clearly (no surprise) you did not "Have to," and are likely still out tenting in some gorgeous part of your gorgeous world. Keep on.

  19. They are my breath, and I theirs.

I am inspired in some way every time I visit your bog. You are a soul syster. Thank you for that.

  20. That photo is extremely painterly. And yes, replete with solace, as is your poem.

  21. I sometimes like to look at trees and sense their personalities. Some trees will be healthy and strong, others are dependent on their parents, some have had a rough life from the elements, some lack spirit and sunshine, but all are perfect the way they are. In so many ways they are like people, and more.
